Chicago real estate developer, Nick Spanos, learns that his plans to convert a derelict mansion into upscale condos is prohibited when he learns the home has historical landmark status. It must remain intact. This throws a wrench into his plans for making enormous profits. As he struggles to choose the best solution to this crisis, a pink rose bush comes to his aid.

Junior English teacher, Ann Porter, had her entire teaching year planned out and was looking forward to it. She loved junior level students because they took their lessons seriously. The day before the new fall classes began, her boss changed her teaching assignment. Instead of teaching junior level English, she was assigned sophomore level English. Ann believed the material for sophomores was boring and found that sophomores tried her patience. Deeply conflicted over the unfair treatment from her boss, Ann questioned her value as a teacher. All the joy in teaching vanished. In her struggle to make peace with her problems, a yellow rose came to her aid.
